Tired of overthinking and putting pressure on yourself?

If you constantly worry and ruminate over things, like situations in life, the thing you said to someone, or the thing someone said to you...
Or even something fairly straight forward, like to what to have for breakfast, or choose off the menu when you go out...
You might end up putting a lot of pressure on yourself in other areas of your life.
This can show up as not being able to get started on a creative project, or other goal, because you don’t want the end result to be shit or to fail.
It could be over-working and feeling guilty for taking breaks, because you need to prove that you’re good at what you do, but you end up feeling totally exhausted and don’t get paid any extra.
or you worry about your body and how you look or appear to other people.
There are many examples, but they all lead to the same outcome - and that’s the impact it has on you doing something you love, or trying something new.
All of your attention and energy goes on the 'what's wrong', and you just feel drained and defeated.
You end up judging yourself and putting MORE pressure on yourself and so the cycle continues.
And the thing is, your body thinks there is a real threat - which is a primal response.
It’s not logical.
Playing, being creative and having fun essentially carries risks, and the job of your nervous system is to keep you alive and avoid anything risky.
This can include anything that makes you feel vulnerable, feels unfamiliar, is out of your comfort zone, or causes nerves or uncomfortable emotions which feel overwhelming.
And this can run the stories in your mind; the beliefs, behaviours and things that can stop you from experiencing simple delicious joy.
One of my lovely participants in the last Embody Your Joy group Somatic Coaching & Creativity container said it was liberating to be able to create again, without worrying about the outcome.
And even if making art isn't your thing, you can apply the processes and explorations from Embody your Joy, into other areas of your life.
