7 Reasons Why 121 Yoga is Worth it!

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Todays discussion is about 121 Yoga - What's so great about it and why should you invest in it.

1 to 1 sessions are beneficial in many areas of life - Educational tutors, personal trainer in the gym, a life or business coach, therapy or counselling sessions or a work review with your manager...

But have you ever thought about a 121 Yoga session?

The main focus of a 121 is that they are about YOU! And that’s not being selfish. Yoga starts with us; Us as individuals learning how to navigate being a (decent) human being.

And sometimes we need a little bit of helping doing that!

So, here are 7 reasons why 121s are a great investment....

1. 121 Yoga sessions are tailored specifically to meet your needs and ‘goals’. Attending a group class is awesome; you get a wonderful community feel and great energy practicing with others, but you are all sharing the attention of the teacher and focusing on a theme the teacher has put together for you. This can be useful, but you might have something specific to your physical, mental or emotional health that you need support with at this time.

2. You can choose what you want focus on.

Yoga is a Spiritual journey which consists of many layers and branches including working on your physical health; Mobility, balance, strength, certain postures or recovery and Emotional & Mental Health; Breathing techniques, Meditation, Yoga Nidra, nervous system regulation & self-enquiry and I can also help create a specific plan, if you are looking to implement your own home practice.

I also run Art Workshops; you might want a 121 art tutorial which is a brilliant way of expressing yourself and exploring your true nature in a fun and alternative way!

3. You can ask as many questions as you like throughout the session.

You don't have to worry about interrupting the group or forgetting what the question was by the end of the class! It can be difficult to ask questions during or even after a group class, especially if lots of people want to talk to the teacher. Also, the teacher might not be able to give you the best possible advice in a limited amount of time. I know personally that I always leave a ‘quick chat’ at the end of a class thinking ‘oh poo, I didn’t tell them this and that…’. Some questions don’t always have a quick solution and I would much rather research it a little deeper, to give you the best support.

4. You might have a specific Injury or medical condition.

A 121 means we can spend time working on how to support you in your practice if you have an injury or medical / health condition. We can work slowly and reflect often, which can help you build more self awareness and understanding of your body. It might also provide you with the confidence to develop your own Yoga practice, or go into a group class and feel comfortable with the knowledge of what feels best for your body and how to adapt.

I’ve worked with and supported people living with Fibromyalgia, depression, severe migraines and in recovery from breast cancer surgery and they have all benefited from regular 121 support.

N.B It’s REALLY important that you seek professional medical support for any injury or condition before attending a Yoga 121 or group class, as it might not be suitable for you, however if your medical team give you the a-ok, Yoga can be a great addition to your recovery. We will discuss this before any session.

5. It's a great place to start!

If you are new to Yoga, a 121 can help to set you up with the foundational postures and understanding of the main elements of Yoga, which may then give you the confidence to attend a group class if you wish to do so. It's important to feel comfortable, so I provide a free Zoom consultation before embarking on any 121 journey with a client, so that we can get to know each other a little beforehand and we can both decide if we are the right fit for each other.

6. You are uncomfortable being around large groups of people.

This could be because you feel self-conscious or because you're concerned about the pandemic, but a 121 can take place in a safe and quiet environment, helping you to feel more at ease and gain a deeper focus on your practice. If the weather is good, we can practice outside and enjoy the benefits of nature at the same time.

7. Through 121s, you can make a connection & build up a friendship with your Yoga teacher, and that’s really special! I’m not a trained therapist and there are certain professional boundaries that I maintain as a teacher. I will always be honest if I’m not able to help you with something or if it’s out of my remit, but I am a real human being with real experiences, emotions and feelings and my aim is to get to know you, to talk to you about real life, motivate you and support you in anyway that I can.

Change doesn't happen over night, so I recommend booking a block of 6 or 10 sessions, to really allow time to settle into your practice and begin to see the benefits. One-off sessions are perfect for those who have a regular Yoga practice and are maybe looking to work on something physical like a particular posture, inversion or arm balance and need dedicated support, or you might want a one-off personalised Yoga Nidra session or art tutorial. You may want a one-off to test the waters or aren't ready to commit to a block. These things take time and there is no rush.

I look forward to speaking with you soon & sharing the practice of Yoga!

With Gratitude,

Sophie x
