In this blog, I'm discussing the power of simplifying goals and intentions, how Somatic Coaching can help, and a short Somatic practice to help you find a word of the year.
I don't tend to set 'New Years Resolutions' but I do have personal and professional intentions and goalsĀ that I want to weave in throughout the year. I also like to pick an overall word at the start of the year to guide me through. This isn't a random word though, but something that my body and soul is wanting more of.
Some of my words over the years have included Simplicity, Trust and Courage.
I try not toĀ put pressure on myself to get all of my goals completed all at once, or even try to work on them at the same time, although there is still a part of me that would like things to happen quicker than they do. I aim to allocate time each week or month to work towards them in a more manageable way. Sounds simple right? Yet I have struggled so much with this, and I know a lot of you do too!
This is an ongoing process & there are times where I lose sight of it all and need to reconnect with those initial goals, intentions & my word of the year. And crucially, the WHY behind them! Why do we want this particular thing so much? Where does it actually stem from?
This is how I work with my Somatic Coaching clients who want to create certain changes and habits in their life but are feeling stuck. I think it's also really important to reflect on those questions I just asked. WHY do you want this? Is it coming from you; a place of connection and curiosity and empowerment for what you need and desire, or is it coming from someone else, perhaps from people pleasing, from fear, from your inner critic or low self worth?
Many of us give up because we try to do too much at once, we don't have a clear enough plan, we are trying to please others or it's rooted in societies judgements of us and how we think we should be, especially for women. From a Somatic perspective, there might beĀ something else is going on within you, perhapsĀ emotionally, that is causing a disconnect & a 'stuckness' in those old habits or beliefs.Ā Ā
If this happens to you, remember you are NOT broken andĀ there's nothing wrong with you.
All humans experience this and many of us struggle with it at some point in our lives.
5 Ways to Simplify your Goals or Intentions
As I was settling back into work this week after the festive period, I was reflecting on my word of 'simplicity' from a few years back. I always have to come back to this word, even if it's not my 'word of the year', as it's such a great reminder for myself and for my Somatic Coaching clients who struggle with knowing where to start!
If you notice the same within yourself, I want to remind you that itās still winter.
We are in the depths of winter; it's cold, it's dark, illnesses are rife, and it's not the time to DO IT ALL.
Let's take a breath, pause and work towards implementing goals slowly, until we feel that surge of Spring energy and awakening in a few months time.
Here are 5 steps that can help you simplify...
Take it one step at a time.
Donāt try to overhaul your life or every aspect of your well-being all at once.
Pick One - What would make the biggest difference right now?
What feels most manageable right now within the context of your life?Ā
Set a monthly or weekly plan to work towards it.

My word this year is Align, which came up for me at the end of December, howeverĀ over the last week, the word 'Settle' has kept coming up. This year I want to focus on aligning to my personal & professionalĀ values and really settling into my business, into offeringĀ Somatic Coaching, sharing what I am passionate about with you and knowing that this is the right path. Ā
